The Risk Management Association is marking the 100th year of serving its members. The observance will continue through and beyond the 100th anniversary date--June 25, 2014. Throughout the celebration, The RMA Journal is highlighting key moments in RMA history in this space each month.

Occurring as it did during the centennial year of The Risk Management Association, the recent RMA Annual Risk Management Conference in Philadelphia had its fair share of glitz and glamour.

Among other flourishes, a special section of the floor was devoted to the centennial, complete with a gigantic, wall-sized timeline marking the association's major milestones, as well as a museum-like display of key association artifacts. Philadelphia favorites the Mummers marched in to play a few string-band tunes, and the evening before the conference featured a gala dinner atop the National Constitution Center, where fine food and camaraderie were accompanied by a striking view of the city skyline.

But beneath all of the celebratory trappings was the solid value proposition of any RMA conference. In addition to sessions that educated RMA members on DFAST compliance, ALLL's regulatory impact on community banks, and more, Philadelphia Fed President Charles Plosser offered a detailed analysis of the economic landscape, and a panel of regulators provided their take on the progress made in risk management since the economic crisis and the challenges still in play.

RMA holds several conferences and forums each year, ranging across all its disciplines. Events include the Annual Governance, Compliance, and Operational Risk Conference (GCOR), the PASLA Conference on Asian Securities Lending, and the Enterprise Risk Management Forum--plus forums on commercial real estate lending, credit department management, health care lending, and loan operations management.
