At an age when most instrumentalists have opted for a quieter life, Menahem Pressler--90 in December--is still giving concerts and making recordings. Now that the Beaux Arts Trio has retired, after more than half a century of top-level music-making, with Pressler very much the linchpin, he is enjoying a solo career embracing the composers with whom the trio was so inextricably linked. With this recital Pressler is hardly making life easy for himself in his choice of one of Schubert's most taxing sonatas, Mozart at his most rawly anguished and Beethoven at his most tersely brilliant
