The Menninger Epicenter was created to provide a safe harbor for individuals with mental illnesses to heal. The serene campus combats the imposing, overwhelming effects often associated with large campus environments in an urban setting. Comfortable, warm spaces evoke a sense of home and a central courtyard anchors each building, providing meditation gardens for both individual and group exercises. Horizontal building lines draw attention to recognizable entries and assist patients with way-finding.

The Menninger Epicenter's mission is to provide a holistic approach to understanding and treating mental illnesses while reducing stigmas often associated with those seeking treatment and care. This approach is fostered by integrated spaces and resources, both on and off the patient unit, including outreach, research, education, and development spaces within the structure of a teaching hospital. An Education and Conferencing Center for faculty and clinical staff anchors these integrated spaces, in addition to a computer lab, flexible meeting space, and private dining rooms.
