When ROGER BRISSON began building a next-generation information infrastructure as head of metadata services at Boston University, he had one goal: to beat Google.

"I wanted the library information system to become so compelling that students would learn to come to the library website for their research, rather than Google, which has numerous serious vulnerabilities for academic work and which can be addressed decisively by libraries," he says. Now, as the new strategy director for Ex Libris Europe, Brisson is excited to help European libraries work toward this goal.

In addition to his role at Boston University, Brisson held senior-level positions at Harvard University and Penn State. He is well-known for his work on several national and international working groups as well as for his active involvement in the development of the Dublin Core standard and in the translation of the AACR2 Cataloguing Rules into German.

In his new position, Brisson will work closely with libraries to appropriately respond to the opportunities and challenges they are facing. …
