When Missions Shapes the Mission is a penetrating study of North American evangelical churches that exposes their reluctance to share the Good News of Christ globally. Veteran church leader David Horner challenges his fellow pastors to rally their leadership and resources to meet the biblical mandate and to shape their fellowship--including the Southern Baptist Convention, his own denomination--to become mission focused.

In describing the anemic place of missions in most evangelical churches today, Horner recognizes that there are major obstacles that bypass God's vision and undercut the opportunities of kingdom expansion. Is the church shaped by culture or by Christ? Are we glorifying God or humanity by being more concerned with temporal life than eternal consequences? Is the church's reluctance to preach the Gospel an indication of its indifference to unreached people groups?

To address these questions, the author establishes a theological framework of kingdom-focused ministry and offers a historical review of effective mission movements.
