With their motion control and yoga apps, smart TVs may be exciting, but they're also incredibly pricey. This little box, though, is all you want from a smart TV, but without the extra packaging. For geeks, it has Ultra HD upscaling, it plays 2D and 3D Blu-rays and has the full suite of Samsung's Smart Hub apps (including yoga, natch). It makes it hard to understand why people would shell out for a smart TV, if we're honest - but perhaps that's just us.

Learning languages is, let's face it, something most of us don't get around to doing once we've left school. This app aims to change that by turning learning a language into a game, teaching you the basics of spelling, grammar and vocabulary, and awarding points based on how well you do. This is 'gamification' at its finest: by playing to their competitive sides, its users push themselves harder. The only downside is that it can be repetitive.
