It's that time of year again: if you're not off on your holiday, then you're probably counting down the days until you are. But if you find yourself spending more time with screens than people, it might be time to consider a break of another kind: a technology detox.

What is the longest you've been unplugged? Test your levels of addiction by asking yourself the following: do you get anxious if you've left your phone at home? Or rather, are you frequently late because you've had to turn back to pick up said phone, tablet or other device? And just how many times in the past 10 or even five minutes have you checked your emails, texts, Twitter account or Facebook feed?

Don't 'power down' completely. We've all been there - trying to go cold turkey will be unrealistic for many. Look instead at how you can better control your use of technology by deciding what you can afford to give up or cut down on, and for how long.
