educational needs of Elgin, Illinois, as a part of the Illinois Community College System. Since its funding in January 1949, the college has continued to grow, and today it is a modern campus consisting of 13 buildings. with additional classes offered at satellite locations that bring opportunities for learning to the residents of nearby suburbs. Even in high school, students can begin taking advantage of the options offered by ECC through its Tech Prep Dual. Credit and Tech Prep Articulated Credit courses. Tis Middle College program also allows seniors at five local high schools to earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking certain ECC classes.

In 2012, ECC was one of only 66 institutions nationwide to be named a Leader College by Achieving the Dream, Inc., in recognition of its work in raising persistence and completion rates and closing achievement gaps. The college is currently accredited by the North Central Association/Higher Learning Commission, and individual programs may have additional accreditations. Among these programs is Histotechnologv. which is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

There are two options offered in the ECC Histotechnology program--an Associate of Applied Science: Histotechnology and a Vocational Specialist Certificate: Histotechnology. In the certificate option, the curriculum is designed to be completed in nine months of full-time study. The classes include English Composition, Introduction to Healthcare Vocabulary. Histotechnology Topics I and II, Embedding and Cutting I and II. Special Stains and a practicum course that provides students with supervised experience in a histology lab, where they practice performing tasks such as grossing, processing. embedding, cutting and staining. They also experience interaction with other histology personnel. …
