Tangy syrups team with classic lemonade to create spicy summertime refreshers. Infused with ginger, plum, cardamom, chili, or mint, the syrups sweeten and flavor a lemon base.

To allow guests to create their own beverages to taste, offer one or several syrups with the lemonade.

Spiced Lemonade

1-1/2 quarts water

1-1/2 cups lemon juice

Ice

Spiced syrup (recipes follow)

Thin lemon slices for garnish

In a 2-to 3-quart pitcher, mix water and lemon juice. Pour into ice-filled glasses. Add spiced syrup to each glass to taste, allowing 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 tablespoons for each 1 cup of lemonade. Garnish with thin lemon slices. Makes about 8 servings.

Spiced syrup. Use any of the following flavors; syrups keep, chilled, for 2 months.
