Are you a good storyteller? Do your children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren sit mesmerized by your ability to tell a great story? I have fun creating great characters, an exciting plot line, and the unexpected endings.

As this month's cover story points out, storytelling can be a great training tool in the workplace. According to Diane Senffner, "Stories give data meaning. They have the power to engage, motivate, persuade, educate, and entertain."

She writes that incorporating stories into e-learning is critical because a lot of the learning today is self-directed. To find success with stories for e-learning programs, you must:

* Wrap a story around your content.

* Use story elements.

* Use conversational dialogue.

* Make it simple.

* Use stories anywhere.

The stories, Senffner stresses, must have relevance to the workplace. "We used our own leadership stories and experiences in class. We retold customer service wins, tales from the trenches of supervision, and stories of managing nasty conflict. …
