I had heard a great deal about this site/app and being asked to review it coincided with the start of our local book award.

Animoto 'makes great videos. Easily'. And that claim is true. It was easy to register, however, from the beginning I thought I would need longer than the 30 second clips allowed with the free registration so I looked for the education access which is advertised on the home page. Trying to register for this, I went round in circles. I eventually gave up and simply registered on a personal free account.

I then started to create my first video. Although was a complete beginner here I had no trouble following the easy to use wizard. I uploaded photos from my laptop. I added text. I inserted the six shortlisted titles, loaded a welcome notice and a vote here page, then ran out of space to upload the logo. I managed to edit the text to condense it, but still couldn't get the logo on. I manipulated the pictures into the order in which I wanted, then pressed preview. Was I impressed? Was I feeling smug? You bet. For something so simple, the effects are very professional. I liked the fast music and some of the background, but it wasn't long enough. So then I had another go at trying to register for the education package and no problem. All I had to do was to upgrade. Easy peasy! It did state that granting education access may take a while, but it was instant. By upgrading to the education site I could create longer videos without payment. Businesses have to purchase this facility to increase their video length.

I then managed to insert all the content I wanted, but changed the background. I loved this new scheme, but preferred the faster music of v1.

I then had to work out how to change the music. The blog, the help and support are just that--with FAQ and suggestions. After about a week, in which I created a couple more videos I also received an email suggesting how to do advanced videos with helpful tips. …
