The 2015 AAAI Distinguished Service Award recognizes one individual for extraordinary service to the AI community. The AAAI Awards Committee is pleased to announce that this year's recipient is Kenneth M. Ford, Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition. Dr. Ford is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of artificial intelligence through sustained service, including the founding of the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), leadership roles at NASA, and his work on the advisory boards of federal science and technology research organizations.

Kenneth Ford is the founder and chief executive officer of the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC)--a not-for-profit research institute located in Pensacola, Florida investigating a broad range of topics related to building technological systems aimed at amplifying and extending human cognitive and perceptual capacities. The author of hundreds of scientific papers and six books, Ford is emeritus editor-in-chief of AAAI / The MIT Press, a AAAI Fellow, and a charter Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. In January 1997, Kenneth Ford was asked by NASA to develop and direct its new Center of Excellence in Information Technology at the Ames Research Center in California. …
