WESH.com out of Orlando, Florida, reported on February 5 that a 56-year-old homeowner was asleep when he was awakened by noises from outside. He was not surprised to see a familiar 32-year-old man, who was there allegedly to rob the homeowner a third time. On this occasion, police say the man was there to steal a truck and other belongings from outside the house.

The homeowner was well-prepared for the suspect's visit and went to investigate the suspicious noises armed with a .22 that he had loaded with non-lethal rat shot. He shot the thief six times, but it was not enough to stop him from stealing his truck. The victim said that he might have tried to kill the suspect if he had entered the house where his family was sleeping, but since his family was not in danger, he used only the non-lethal ammunition. The homeowner told police about the rat ammunition, "They hurt a lot. They're for shooting rodents, which is exactly what I did, I shot a rat. …
