The destroyer's weapon of choice? Technology. Technology has been an awesome force in our lives, particularly over the last 10 years. It has created awesome opportunities for some and brought awesome destruction to others.

It's because of technology that Amazon is destroying bookstores, Netflix destroyed Blockbuster, GPS devices are destroying map companies, and now mobile apps are destroying GPS devices. Technology helped Apple disrupt the music industry, Airbnh disrupt tourism and Uber disrupt transportation services.

Technology will disrupt your business, too. Technologies are advancing so rapidly that most industry leaders will be fighting for survival before they know it. Technology will weaponize competitors to outpace you, attack your margins and steal your customers.

I feel it is my job to inspire and warn you. This message and this issue are dedicated to warning you: Disruption is ahead.

You can no longer differentiate to stay ahead. "Differentiate or die" is a dead mantra and strategy. Consumers are numbed by ceaseless claims that "we're different." The customer doesn't care how you are different; only you do. …
