Participation Means Giving Some and Getting More in Return

I'm always looking for opportunities to learn. This time they showed up in an NACM email, which asked recipients to test their knowledge about bankruptcy, and a request through LinkedIn to serve on a Commercial Law League of America (CLLA) speakers panel.

Participation in groups such as these helps both sides of the equation. What I learn helps me personally and professionally, and what I learn can save my company tons of money.

It's good to share different viewpoints. After a while, you can become stagnant. When I participate in events such as these, I find myself saying, "Why don't I do that anymore?" or "Why don't I try that?"

Education is priceless to me. What better way to gain education than by being involved and serving on these types of committees! The more you learn, the more you're going to be able to help yourself and others.

I agreed to serve on the NACM bankruptcy reform committee to help improve bankruptcy for trade creditors and to gain an even deeper knowledge about how bankruptcy works and how reform will affect companies. As I learn more during this process, I'll share that experience. I love to mentor. I still remember how hard it was when I first started.
