Many of us gathered in Staffordshire in June for the annual SLA Weekend Course. This year it's my turn to report back, and hopefully to recapture the essence of another very successful event. Barbara Band and Susan Staniforth have written about the new Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Award. Established jointly by the SLA and the School Libraries Group of CILIP, the Award has been received with great enthusiasm, as reflected in the high number of nominations. The authors recount how the Award came about, its structure and organisation, the Award ceremony itself, and look forward to the next Award. Nominations for this are invited from September until 31 October, so if you have a likely candidate in your school library, get your entry in!

Social media is all around us, and a great boon to many. …
