Columnist Justin Torres took inspiration from a portrait of author James Baldwin by Harlem Renaissance painter Beauford Delaney to asses our collective treatment of transgender teens, particularly those of color. Pamela Ann Reed appreciated the piece, writing, "Thanks Justin! As a trans woman who is an activist I know that feeling that we are still not understood or accepted by most. Oh, we have made progress since I transitioned 15 years ago, but we still have a long way to go. And yes, even among the LGB community!" Liz LaVenture commented, "Excellent piece!
