Bus Drivers Host Unique Valentine's Dance for Students with Special Needs

Love is all around on Valentine's Day for students with special needs in Wilson, North Carolina. Every year for the past 20 years, school bus drivers have organized and hosted a Valentine's Dance for these adored students. This year it took place at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center on Tuesday, February 16.

"This is the only field trip many students will take all year long," said bus driver Mary Goodman to the Lebanon Democrat. "A group of bus drivers started this years ago, and the students love coming here. We do it because we love them, not because we have to."

Goodman, who's been a bus driver in Wilson County for the past 30 years, said she and all the other drivers are happy to be involved.

Dancing and Smiling

From preschool through high school, all students with special needs in Wilson County schools are invited to the Valentine's party that includes a DJ spinning some of the kids' favorite tunes. …
