This is the second book to share the somewhat mad home life of the Bolds with us. The Bolds, by the way, are a family of hyenas passing as a human family. In their first book they helped rescue various animals and give them a pleasant home well now their fame has spread and there are ever more animals knocking at the door and wanting rescuing! The list in this adventure is mind boggling--a singing French poodle, a crocodile escaping the sewers, a turtle, a cat (and kittens), seagulls (but they do stay outside), a black faced sheep called Roger and two racehorses. The descriptions of meal times and lessons in how to pass as human are delightfully silly, full of fun, and laugh out loud funny!

Several serious points are made, in the circumstances the animals are escaping, but with such humour and compassion that even the youngest reader/listener will not be scared by man's sometimes odd or cruel treatment of animals. …
