Have you ever looked up the events that happened in the year of your birth? It can be entertaining and informative to find out how the world has changed since you were born. Well, we wanted to do the same thing with TD magazine.

The flagship publication of the Association for Talent Development started 70 years ago in 1946, the magazine's first full volume year. It looked different back then-with a different name (Industrial Training News), size (looked like a Reader's Digest), and frequency (quarterly)-but what we found was that some of the trends and topics that are relevant today were front and center in the 1940s: proving training's value, where the training and talent development department should be housed in an organization, justifying training, and finding new ways to deliver training.

This month's cover article, on page 30, examines these issues at length through examples that date back to 1946.

During the seven decades of this publication, there have been seven name changes because this magazine has evolved as the profession and the association have changed. …
