Men are having an identity crisis. While many--myself included--don't want to return to the sexist, misogynistic sins of their fathers, they're grappling with how to redefine manhood.

Jim Patterson and Don Reo, creators of the CBS show Two and a Half Men, engage this turmoil in their Netflix sitcom, The Ranch. The show follows the story of a ranch owned by Beau Bennett (played by Hollywood's go-to cowboy, Sam Elliot) and his two sons, Jameson "Rooster" and Colt (played by That '70s Show alums Danny Masterson and Ashton Kutcher). On the surface, all three men are walking, talking male stereotypes. Beau is a silent, hardworking rancher who doesn't want to share his feelings. Rooster is a small-town boy who drinks every night, and Colt is a failed quarterback. The brothers are stuck in an arrested adolescence as they try to bed every woman of Garrison, Colorado. …
