Simplifile's E-Recording Network Gains 42 Counties

Provo, Utah-based Simplifile said its e-recording network gained 42 counties in 18 states during the second quarter, bringing the total number of jurisdictions nationwide to 1,452.

Of the new additions to its network, 10 new counties joined from Georgia; five counties each from Missouri and North Carolina; three counties each from Indiana and Kansas; two new counties each from California, Louisiana and Wisconsin; and one new county from Alabama, Michigan, North Dakota, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Simplifile's secure, web-based service allows title companies, banks, attorneys and lien filers to upload and submit documents directly to recorders' offices in the counties in its network. Then in minutes the recorder can electronically review, stamp, record and return the documents.

Simplifile President Paul Clifford said much of the company's recent success stems from growing interest in e-recording among mortgage lenders. A company press release notes that "The Simplifile Collaboration service allows lenders to interact with settlement agents in real time to determine the appropriate fees for a transaction. …
