The University of Mary, Turtle Mountain Community College and Sitting Bull College have been awarded federal grants to help more Native Americans pursue careers as teachers and administrators in high-need, reservation schools. SBC received about $800,000 to train 10 students in various four-year education programs. The University of Mary received nearly $1 million to partner with Turtle Mountain Community College, which will receive part of the funding for undergraduate students pursuing K-12 education degrees.

The U.S. Department of Education announced that the three North Dakota institutions were among 20 recipients of $6.7 million in grants to boost the number of teachers on reservations.

California State University, Fullerton has received $5.8 million grant from the Department of Education for a five-year project partnering with eight community colleges to increase the number of Hispanic and low-income transfer students who complete bachelors degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and enter careers in these fields.

Cal State Fullerton is partnering with community colleges in Orange and Los Angeles counties--Citrus, Cypress, Fullerton, Golden West, Mt. San Antonio, Orange Coast, Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon --for the "Regional Alliance in STEM Education: Raising the Bar in Transfer, Retention and Graduation Rates," called Project RAISE. CSUF has received about $1.2 million in first-year funding.

California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) School of Nursing has received a grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to create a new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) track within the Clinical Nurse Specialist specialization, as well as a post-MSN certificate in Transitions of Care Management.
