Members Choose Telfair as Next APHA President

APHA'S NEXT president will be Joseph Telfair, DrPH, MPH, MSW, Association members decided in November.

The Association's Governing Council chose Telfair as APHA president-elect during its session at APHA's 2016 Annual Meeting and Expo in Denver. He will serve one year as president-elect before assuming the presidency at the close of APHA's 2017 Annual Meeting, which will be held Nov. 4-8 in Atlanta.

Telfair is a professor at Georgia Southern University and dual chair of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health's Department of Community Health and Department of Environmental Health Sciences.

The Governing Council additionally elected four Executive Board members: Chris Chanyasulkit, PhD, MPH; William Courtney, DVM, MPH, MA; Betty Barnes Daniels, PhD, RN; and Andre Stanley, MPH. Benjamin Hernandez, MBA, was also elected as APHA's new treasurer.

In other elections, Howard Koh, MD, MPH, was elected vice president for the United States; Alcides Ochoa Alonso, MPH, was elected vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Ardene Robinson Vollman, PhD, RN, CCHN(C), was elected vice president for Canada.

Governing Council members also elected four members to the APHA Nominations Committee, which develops the slate of candidates for APHA's annual elections. The newly elected members are Apryl Renee Brown, MD, MPH; Danielle Campbell, MPH; Marian Levy, DrPH, RD; and Rosemary Sokas, MD, MOH. Cassandra Chess, MPH is the new committee chair.

During its business meeting, the APHA Executive Board chose its new leadership. …
