Three new chapters were recently initiated into the Society. The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce, Puerto Rico; Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona; and Washington State University, Tri-Cities in Richland, Washington, were established as the 336th, 337th, and 338th chapters of Phi Kappa Phi.

While running a chapter can certainly be challenging at times, chapters deal with those challenges in different and practical ways. Chapter development staff at Society headquarters is tasked with helping chapters not only achieve optimal health but also to maintain it. We use reports submitted from chapters to inform our programming and outreach. Two issues commonly revealed in the annual reports include how chapters should involve student vice presidents and how to raise chapter visibility.

HOW SHOULD A CHAPTER INVOLVE STUDENT VICE PRESIDENTS?

The student vice presidents at the University of Michigan engage students through their website and social media presence, as well as through email.

"We also hold an annual information session for all invited candidates approximately one month before the deadline to join. In addition, our SVPs hold walk-in info sessions around campus prior to the deadline. Our new student organization co-sponsored a fundraiser event featuring presentations by faculty and student performance groups. They also held an ice cream social for all new members two days following our initiation."
