Dear Reader,

This is my final "Dear Reader" letter to you, for at the conclusion of the 2017 National Conference in Baltimore I begin a two-year term as Immediate Past President and Chair of the Nominating Committee. When I started my term as President in 2015, several Past Presidents warned me that these two years would go by very quickly. What an understatement! It has been a whirlwind of activity and the time has absolutely flown by.

I began my term with three major priorities: to strengthen our domestic membership and certification, and increase outreach to our international membership.

* With intense and expert work by Vice President Karen Thickstun (2015-2017), our Division Directors-elect and our staff at headquarters, our membership numbers have begun to stabilize. We all must continue to work on this important priority!

* In the area of certification, Marianne Fleming Bryan and Timothy Shook (our past and current Commission Chairs) have created and instituted excellent training sessions for our Certification Commissioners. Thank you, Marianne and Tim!

* Regarding our international membership--in July 2016, the Board of Directors approved the MTNA Global Strategy, and in December, they established a Global Initiatives Task Force whose purpose is to develop a global initiatives plan utilizing a bequest from Thomas Ediger. We stand at the threshold of great opportunities with these decisions by our dedicated and forward-thinking national board.

* I am also delighted to report that after two years of preparation, the MTNA e-Festival is now in place with Amy Immerman as the manager of this new event. …
