The three sisters in this story are trying to cope at home with their Mum, while their father, a water engineer, is abroad working on an urgent project in a dangerous part of the developing world. The novel introduces us to each of the girls and their lives, hopes and dreams. Katie, the youngest, longs for her own pony, and is just outside the group of girls who own their own ponies. Georgy is a driven and dedicated runner, who is battling her lack of confidence and longs for the good opinion of her coach. The eldest sister, Beth is juggling friendships, romance and ambition to be the star performer in the school's end of term musical, as well as her own tendency to speak first and regret later. The novel deals sympathetically with the everyday jealousies, disappointments and embarrassments of the girls' lives, as well as their mother's heroic efforts to keep the family ticking along on her own. …
