Facebook launched Safety Check, a feature that allows users to say they're safe in the event of a catastrophe, in 2014. Since then, millions have marked themselves safe after such incidents as hurricanes, mass shootings, bombings, and earthquakes. Now, the company says it will share some of that data with aid organizations to make it easier for them to locate those in need.

The Bard Prison Initiative, a branch of the private Bard College, provides college education to more than 300 students in six locations in New York state prisons. Professor Robert Tynes calls BPI "one of the best teaching experiences I've ever had," while inmates see the program as life-changing. "It gives you meaning and it gives you purpose," says Dyjuan Tatro, behind bars for eleven years for drug crimes and gang shootings.
