A cousin to the celebration of tourism, progress, and national pride that closed last fall in Vancouver, B.C., Expo 88 gets underway April 30 in Brisbane, Australia. The theme will be "Leisure in the Age of Technology." Anyone visting Queensland prior to the start of this six-month showcase for the nation's bicentennial is invited to stop by and check out the progress.

The level site along the Brisbane River resembles Vancouver's except that downtown is a ferry ride away. Part of the fair site and also worth a stop, the gleaming Queensland Cultural Centre is spacious and surprisingly grand for a city of a million inhabitants.
