Asian Credit Conditions to Remain Stable in 2018

Credit conditions across Asia will remain steady in 2018, according to Moody's Investors Service which released polling results in February that affirm that view. The ratings agency held a pair of conferences in January and surveyed investors, intermediaries and debt issuers to gauge their views on Asia's credit conditions. "The recent spike in volatility in global markets, including across Asia, has not altered our baseline view that credit conditions across Asia will remain stable throughout the year," said Moody's.

There were several key outcomes from the Asia Credit Outlook conferences in Hong Kong and Singapore. Among the biggest were the polling results matching Moody's sentiment. Respondents also reported unexpected tightening in funding conditions and geopolitics as the top two downside risks to credit conditions. Trade protectionism was the third risk. Nearly half of the Singapore participants considered unexpected tightening of funding as the No. 1 concern, but less than a quarter of the Hong Kong respondents thought it was the top risk. …
