Louise Coulson has a very difficult family to live with. Her father is sleeping with one of his sixth form students, her mother is having a major breakdown, her brother bakes a lot and is probably gay and her sister's hamster now lives behind the fridge. This is all before chapter four.

Louise has no friends at school until Faith joins her class. Faith is very different form the rest of the girls at school and her family is as complicated as Louise's; she has six gay parents. Life becomes unbearable after her father's relationship becomes public. Family life becomes strained and rumours and bullying at school become overwhelming. Louise has only two means of escape, her imaginary family that live in a remote part of Scotland on the shores of a loch or watching trains. …
