Article excerpt

Primary Source Media, now part of The Gale Group, has announced the release of The Native American Experience, the 11th CD-ROM in its historical research series, American Journey: History in Your Hands.

Like previous American Journey titles, The Native American Experience features rare primary source materials organized around thematic essays. Hyperlinks, timelines, maps, picture albums, content lists, and flexible full-text searches facilitate access to hundreds of documents and images.

"The Native American Experience brings to life the history of America's indigenous peoples in all of its richness and diversity," said David Lucas, president and CEO of Primary Source Media. "Students and researchers at a variety of levels will be able to use the disc to reevaluate the primary record as never before and obtain insights that test, support, and enrich their understanding of the very earliest Americans."

According to the company, the CD introduces the world of the indigenous peoples of America, depicting the sweep of their experience from before Columbus to the present day. The varied experiences of the native peoples of North America come alive with their own words and images. The CD-ROM also explores events in Native American history that have affected areas outside the modern U.S., including Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America.

Topics covered include creation myths, the Conquest, the Indian Wars, the American Indian Movement, language, land and environment, and casino gambling. …
