Article excerpt

SIRS Mandarin, Inc., library systems developer and publisher of SIRS Researcher, SIRS Government Reporter, SIRS Renaissance, and SIRS Discoverer electronic reference databases, has announced the release of SIRS Knowledge Source, a new online interface.

SIRS Knowledge Source is a fully integrated online search environment designed to allow users to access full-text articles and graphics from Researcher, Government Reporter, and Renaissance by searching all three databases simultaneously or individually. Uniquely suited to the research needs of students and library patrons alike, SIRS Knowledge Source enables users to retrieve information quickly for assignments, exploration, and reference. SIRS Knowledge Source also provides an optional link to SIRS Discoverer Deluxe, a database created specifically for elementary- and middle-school children.

SIRS Knowledge Source features three search methods-quick, advanced, and topic browse. Boolean operators, truncation, phrase searching, and natural-language search options are incorporated to assure power and precision in every search. It also includes convenient features such as multiple tagging, sorting, printing, and e-mailing options; specialized search history and retrieval features; a dictionary/thesaurus; and How To Cite, a reference aid adapted from Turabian, MLA, and APA guidelines that is available in the Help & Tips section.

SIRS Researcher contains thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political, and global issues. Articles and graphics are from 1,500 domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals, and government publications. All articles are indexed according to Library of Congress subject headings. Special features include the Spotlight of the Month, a collection of comprehensive articles focusing on a monthly topic chosen from Chase's Calendar of Events.

SIRS Government Reporter is a valuable source for current and historic government documents; landmark and recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions; and information about federal departments, agencies, and elected leaders. The main database delivers thousands of full-text documents and graphics concerning a wide variety of topics: health, science, economics, the environment, politics, foreign affairs, workplace issues, business, and industry. …
