Wednesday 25th: 2pm Drive to Southampton, praying for a porthole. 4.45pm Wow! Not only a porthole, but a big window, toilet and shower. A bed, not a bunk. Compared with Canberra, Oriana is paradise. 5.15pm Lifeboat drill followed by several reunions in the Crow's Nest. 8.30pm Dinner. Mobile phone stopped working. Uncontactable until the Channel Isles. 10.30pm Crow's Nest. Plan is to go to bed at midnight. Chris Wood retires to his 'stateroom with a balcony' to write keynote speech. 12.06 Bed!

Thursday 24th: 9am Good workshop on 'below-the-line' evaluation. 11.30am Oops! Channel Isles have been and gone. Uncontactable again. 12pm Three really productive one-to-one meetings. Best start I've had to the Forum. 12.50pm Ladies toilet. Conversation with Jan Smith about women in marketing. 1pm Lunch with BMP DDB. Lively exchange of views with Simon Little about client-agency relationships. 5.30pm Lords Tavern. Interview. 7pm B202. Champagne courtesy of TBWA, to start off the evening. 7.30pm Crow's Nest: meeting with Irene Inskip (CLK). …
