Context, Ltd. Unveils New CD-ROM, Enhancements to JUSTIS

Article excerpt

Context Electronic Publishers, Ltd. has announced the release of Lloyd's Electronic Law Reports on CD-ROM, which includes material dating from 1919 to the present, and the addition of "Sentencing" to its JUSTIS Criminal Appeal Reports CD-ROM.

Lloyd's Law Reports

According to the company, Lloyd's Electronic Law Reports on CD-ROM are devoted exclusively to reporting significant commercial, maritime, insurance, and reinsurance cases. Reported by Mavis D'Souza, barrister, the cases are approved by commercial judges before publication, giving them unique authority. The reports are a comprehensive and reliable source of commercial case law, with the majority of cases they cover unreported elsewhere.

Published using Context's latest software, JUSTIS 5, the search interface is logical to follow, making any search quick and easy. A specific case can be located under a variety of search terms: by word, subject, name of party, ship name, judge, citation, etc. The relevant case can then be viewed and seen in profile or full text.

In addition to the full-text searching, Context's JUSTIS interface offers users a variety of linking facilities including J-Link, Context's new research tool. With J-Link, a publication reference to a document in any JUSTIS database will enable users to link directly to it. J-Link works between different JUSTIS databases, as well as outside the JUSTIS range. I-Link will work from most Windows applications, including word-processing files, e-mail, and the Internet provided the user subscribes to the relevant JUSTIS database. For example, using floating J-Link, the user can go from:

* A reference to a Lloyd's Law Reports case in e-mail to the full text of that case in Lloyd's Electronic Law Reports

* A reference to a Statutory Instrument in a university lecturer's teaching notes posted on the campus intranet to the full text of the SI in JUSTIS UK Statutory Instruments

* A reference to a Criminal Appeal Reports case in Archbold CD-ROM to the full text of that case in JUSTIS Criminal Appeal Reports

According to the company, the Lloyd's Electronic Law Reports printed and onscreen cases appear in typographical format with page numbers and page layout retained throughout, making the search process as familiar as possible. Also, under the JUSTIS interface the user can link from Lloyd's Electronic Law Reports to other products in the same range, including JUSTIS Weekly Law and electronic Law Reports (eLR). …
