New York State has recently selected Grolier Educational's award-winning Grolier online as its online encyclopedia of choice for all K-12 schools, colleges and public libraries.

This deal provides libraries in New York with access to two of America's largest, most respected and most authoritative encyclopedias at an attractive price: The Encyclopedia American and the Grolier multimedia encyclopedia. The Grolier multimedia encyclopedia online is based on the text of the Academic American encyclopedia and was created for students at the upper elementary level and in junior high school, high school or college as well as for the inquisitive adult. It offers 35,000 entries that reflect curricula, myriad topics of contemporary interest, along with extensive multimedia resources such as photographs, artwork, maps and sounds. SIRS Discoverer[R] In Three Editions

SIRS has customized and enhanced its popular SIRS Discoverer database to match various age ranges, interests and reading abilities. The Elementary edition contains full-text articles written specifically for Easy and Moderate reading levels; the Middle edition includes Moderate and Challenging articles. Both editions also contain a new multi-volume, 26,000 article encyclopedia with selected graphics. The world almanac[R] for kids: Photo essays and activities. The Elementary and Middle editions are available in Windows and Macintosh CD-ROM versions. SIRS Discoverer Deluxe is available as Windows and Macintosh CD-ROMs, and online via the World Wide Web. It will contain articles for all three reading levels, as well as the encyclopedia, a dictionary and thesaurus and other standard features. A new addition is Spotlight of the Month, a collection of articles selected from the SIRS Researcher database to encourage research and awareness of timely issues. Follett Software has announced the release of its new Z39.50 server, BookWhere?[TM] 2000, enabling library collections to be posted on the Internet for access from anywhere in the world. With the new Z39.50 server, a library collection can be posted on the Internet for access by anyone using a Z39.50 client in another library. The Z39.50 client enables viewing and retrieving bibliographic information from collections around the world.
