This atmospheric story combines reality, fantasy and magic in a strangely unsettling way as a rift between worlds leads to grief, loss and danger for the central characters. Short, readable chapters alternate between the viewpoints of Angel and Bavar, two contrasting and compelling characters who leap off the page. Angel has moved to a new school after the murder of her parents and she seems to be the only person there who can truly see Bavar. Bavar, whose parents have abandoned him, is extremely tall, gangling and awkward and works very hard to remain unseen. Both characters are lost, alone and grieving and as they are drawn together secrets are gradually revealed. Angel's parents were killed by the monsters that Bavar's family is destined to fight and kill, monsters that escape through a rift between worlds. …
