Medcast Networks Delivers Internet Broadcast News Center

Article excerpt

Medcast Networks has announced that it has unveiled its electronic broadcast system and its first five medical news networks: Medcast Cardiology, Medcast Psychiatry, Medcast Oncology, Medcast Endocrinology, and Medcast Primary Care. With more than 40 editorial staffers located in its Atlanta newsroom and Washington, DC, bureau and over 20 correspondents nationwide, Medcast stands ready to revolutionize the way the medical community obtains critical news and intelligence, the company says.

The Atlanta-based Medcast Networks' News and Technology Center delivers a daily broadcast with sight, sound, and motion via the Internet to the desktops of its physician subscribers across the country each night. The broadcast includes original peer-reviewed daily medical news, specialty-specific Continuing Medical Education (CME), and graphically rich medical illustrations.

"We have engineered a medium that provides a broadband Internet experience today ... one that embraces the Web yet at the same time addresses its limitations, especially the slow pace at which detailed graphics can be downloaded. With Medcast, the physician has immediate, split-second access to specialized quality content and can also launch Medcast's Web browser for Internet access," said Alan Greenberg, founder and chairman of Medcast Networks.

Medcast features a daily Top Stories channel that gives physicians medical versions of the same stories that appear that day in the popular press, complete with scientific data and expert medical commentary from leading physicians and researchers. Specialty medical news channels feature daily originally written articles covering published research (complete with a daily CME module), medical conference coverage, and policy issues.

Useful 3-D "patient demos" illustrating disease and treatment scenarios, communication with pharmaceutical companies, continually updated disease updates originally written by medical experts, access to medical references, and a wealth of practical information to help the doctor manage his or her patients and medical practice are also offered.
