Volvo, Saab Drive Hard-to-Resist Bargains

Both Volvo and Saab offer little-known "European delivery programs" that can save you up to 10 percent on the purchase price of a new car -- and which also include generous travel discounts toward a European vacation.

If you buy a new Volvo in Europe (any one of 13 cities, including the company's home city of Gothenburg), the Swedish automaker will provide free, round-trip airfare to your destination, arrange for temporary European insurance and registration, and ship the car back to a U.S. Volvo dealer at no additional charge -- including all freight expenses, Customs and insurance. Volvo also throws in free hotel accommodations for your first night's stay and will help you plan the details of your vacation (lodging, route maps and tourist attractions).

Saab's program is similar but no longer includes the free plane tickets that it did last year. However, if you choose Saab's world headquarters in Trollhatten as your delivery site, the automaker will provide free airport pickup at Gothenburg (the neighboring city), plus a free night's stay at the Ronnum Manor -- a charming local inn -- that includes complimentary dinner and breakfast. …
