Approved Vendor List Announced for Y2K Solutions

In response to requests from local governments for help in dealing with the Year 2000 (Y2K) problem, Public Technology, Inc. (PTI), announced the first contract awards under its Y2K Procurement Solutions Program this past February. These contract awards are designed to provide local governments with a reliable set of prescreened services and software tools for addressing Y2K problems. The initial contracts were awarded by PTI to:

AMS International Group Axyn Technologies Corporation Graftel, Inc. Century Technology Services Comarco Systems, Inc. Executive Search, Inc. SolutionSoft Systems, Inc.

Each of the contract awardees responded to a nationwide, publicly advertised request for proposals (RFP) issued by PTI and passed a rigorous review process. This procurement process is identical to the one used by many state and local governments in soliciting information technology products and services. In fact, the review team included senior local government officials in the field of information technology who acted as advisers on the RFP design.

The national cooperative purchasing program has three primary benefits for local governments:

1. Shared expertise. As mentioned, information technology executives in local government were instrumental in developing the RFP and in evaluating the responses. By surveying their experiences in addressing the Y2K issue and in contracting with the private sector for solutions, PTI has been able to develop high-quality specifications, terms, and conditions for the master contracts. …
