Legal Industry Widens the SPECTRUM

Buchanan Ingersoll, P.C., one of the largest commercial law firms in the United States with more than 320 lawyers, needed a powerful human resource information system that could meet its legal data tracking and reporting requirements, such as tracking states in which attorneys are licensed to practice. SPECTRUM's HRVantage HRIS provided the flexibility to customize features specific to the legal profession and the analytical reporting for its human resource data.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Buchanan Ingersoll, P.C., has quadrupled in size over the past decade with 11 offices in six states and in London, England. The firm provides legal services for individuals, multinational conglomerates, and Fortune 500 corporations. The firm has expanded into developing industries such as healthcare, energy, Internet service, and security alarms.

With increasing growth in business and employees, Buchanan Ingersoll, P.C., decided to take the next step with its HRIS system. The firm was modernizing all of its systems. Satisfied with all aspects of SPECTRUM's software products and customer service, the firm decided to continue using SPECTRUM's HRVantage system. In 1998, Jim Neral was hired as the firm's compensation and benefits/HRIS administrator to prepare for the upgrade to the latest HRVantage release and to enhance overall system operation.

"SPECTRUM's continual updating of their HR software systems was an important factor in our decision to stay with HRVantage," Neral said. "This newest system also will help us to move forward as the firm expands here and abroad."

According to Neral, the firm needed a system that would transform its HR data into strategic information and would be able to manage ever-increasing reporting requirements.

"With the firm in a rapid growth mode with 750 employees and growing, we needed the speed and expanded functionality of an HRIS that could keep up with future growth requirements," he said. …
