The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) has announced that it has released two new Web-based tools to search and access scholarly information.

ISI has announced the release of version 1.4 of Current Contents Connect (CC Connect), which features a daily update of the Current Contents database and an option to link to selected and evaluated Web sites via Current Web Contents.
Current Web Contents is a prototype release that provides links to scholarly Web content. Users are able to link to a Web site record from the search results or by browsing the Current Contents categories. Searchers also have the option to review a standardized description of each research-oriented Web selection prior to linking to the site.
"Currency and quality have always been the hallmarks of the ISI database," said Vin Caraher, senior vice president, market development, ISI. "Daily database updates, combined with advances in electronic processing and recent workflow improvements, will significantly improve the currency of Current Contents Connect. The new 'since last visit' feature offers searchers the option to limit their search profiles to only the most recent data.
"In addition," said Caraher, "we have added a link to scholarly Web sites. As you know, ISI has decades of experience in providing quality filters and organizing scholarly data. Therefore, we believe we are in a good position to extend the expertise of our editorial group to the World Wide Web and have directed them to organize new Web material and provide a solid guarantee of authenticity, quality, and timeliness to this critical information. We are now in a position to provide the most current scholarly information from two important sources: traditional journals and electronically available data."
In constructing Current Web Contents, ISI says it focused on building a comprehensive selection process. Evaluating and selecting scholarly, research-oriented Web sites for inclusion in Current Contents Connect required development of new evaluative tools that were relevant to information delivered via a relatively new medium, The editors integrated qualitative and quantitative elements that provide the evidence for a site being authoritative, current, relevant to subject matter, and easily navigable and reviewed.
