This past winter saw the birth of a few new associations whose efforts and interests intersect with risk management concerns.

Licensed insurers, agents, brokers, offshore insurance managers and adjusters from the British Islands have joined together to form the British Virgin Islands Insurance Association (284.494.4078).

Responding to the growth of offshore insurance business in the region since the Insurance Act of 1994, the group aims to provide a unified voice to set professional standards, encourage education and promote the BVI insurance industry around the globe. Peter Bates, supervisor of insurance for the BVI financial services department, comments that the new association "will cement the Cooperation that already exists between government and the private sector, facilitating closer working relationships and benefiting all clients."

The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, the Independent Insurance Agents of America and over eighty other international agent and broker associations have formed the World Federation of Insurance Intermediaries (32.27.379.580). …
