WELCOME TO THE 100th anniversary issue of The RMA Journal. In addition to our regular offering of articles to enhance your performance and career as a risk manager, I encourage you to check out the special features this month that commemorate this milestone--from the interview with former Journal editors to the fun look at our advertisements through the decades. We are proud of this durable publication and aware of the responsibility to preserve its high standards and utility as we head into its second century.

Over the years the Journal has evolved from a credit-focused publication to one that addresses risks across the enterprise. This issue is no exception and includes a piece by Joseph Iraci and Chad Rogers of TD Ameritrade that suggests a framework for the emerging risks that must be tracked to ensure long-term viability. This special edition also includes my interview with incoming RMA Chair Edward Schreiber, the CRO of Zions Bancorporation.

Ed has a fascinating story. Before entering banking, he spent 19 years with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where he was a national bank examiner, field manager, problem bank analyst, and systems analyst. Following that, he was CRO and regulatory liaison for TD Bank and a managing director of Alvarez & Marsal Financial Industry Regulatory Advisory Services.

Ed told me that his experiences at the OCC inform the work he does today. He mentioned, in particular, working for the OCC in Texas during the oil bust of the 1980s. …
