There is a growing need for Internet-related demographic and growth information, Internet traffic statistics, and visual maps of the Internet and World Wide Web. These sites can be particularly useful in presentations where growth information or visual representations of network traffic are desirable. It is also extremely interesting to browse through them for a better understanding of the size and scope of the Internet.

The NetCopter site provides a table of Internet service providers and root name servers that includes their IP address, packet loss information, and traceroute information. The testing of these sites is from the NetCopter home, therefore, this is only a single view of the Internet traffic to these sites. It is, however, useful in determining how much data is lost at any given moment across the network.

The Internet Health Report

The Internet Health Report provided by Daze Networks, Inc. provides information similar to that provided by NetCopter. IP addresses and packet loss information is the primary resource. However, this site runs the tests from two locations, one from Marina Del Ray, California and one from Salt Lake City, Utah. This provides a useful level of comparison across the network from two separate points.

The Internet Weather Report

IWR is a network testing site maintained by Matrix Information and Discovery Services, Inc. (MIDS). MIDS provides "ongoing animated scans of conditions within the Internet." Images include the United States, Europe, United Kingdom, Italy, East Asia, and several other countries and regions. Information available on these maps includes a number of domains in a specific area and latency (also called "lag," tins is an indication of the amount of time it takes for a packet to travel to the site and back again).

Internet Traffic Report

The Traffic Report monitors the flow of traffic and provides an indexed number and trend information to determine the status of the network. Also available is average response time and average packet loss information. Graphs for the last 24 hours, last 7 days, and last 30 days on the three statistics are provided as well.
