Response to Your Letters Re Cessation of Heritage

In response to numerous letters, (see Letters to the Editor), from concerned readers following my announcement last issue of the cessation of Heritage magazine at the end of this year, here is copy of a letter I sent Dr. Barbara Posadas of DeKalb, Illinois, on her thoughts about my stopping Heritage. Rather than respond to everybody, here are my feelings about the whole affair:

Thank you very much for your kind words and concern about my wife's health condition and my plan to stop publishing Heritage magazine at the end of the year. To say that I will miss Heritage is a gross understatement.

It pains me to stop, yet I have to rearrange my priority being that charity always starts at home, in my case, literally. I have devoted the best thirteen years of my life--from 1987 to 1999--nurturing and watching Heritage magazine grow, worrying when it floundered, righting the venture when it seemed going down, and celebrating with my wife whenever a new issue comes out fresh from the printer and, after a short euphoria, starting to worry again for the contents of the next issue. …
