Student Leader Search

Do you have exceptional student leaders in your classroom? Tell them that Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island is sponsoring its Third Annual Outstanding Student Leader Competition, where winners can receive top prizes including a chance to "shadow" a corporate executive and a four-year scholarship to the school's Hospitality College or College of Business. Students who will be graduating in the 1999-2000 school year are eligible and must submit a resume, current high school transcript, completed entry form and a 250-word essay entitled "What Leadership Means to Me." Donate to Culinary Scholarships

The New England Culinary Institute is looking for corporations to donate to the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) scholarship fund. C-CAP is a nonprofit organization that trains public high school students for careers in the food industry through small classes and hands-on experiences in restaurants. C-CAP students can work toward an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or certificate in cookery, food management and hospitality training. The scholarships, which range from $500 to $40,000, are awarded to about 100 students each spring. To apply, students must show an interest in culinary arts as a career, have strong academics and meet eligibility requirements. Free Handbook

An updated version of the How to Establish and Operate a Successful Collision Repair Training Program Handbook is now available online. I-CAR Education Foundation, publisher of the original 1993 version, has made the latest edition available, for free, on its Web site. A $12.95 value, the handbook is a resource for establishing or improving collision repair training programs. Allstate and Tech-Cor provided grants to the foundation for the funding for the handbook. Discovering Stellar Students

Katie Jerabek survived cancer and an amputated leg, yet she still plays softball and skis. She's also president of her school's German club, a student athletic trainer for her school's varsity football team and treasurer of her church's youth group. And her grades are near perfect.

Jerabek is just one of nine winners of the 1999 Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarships, sponsored by the credit card company in cooperation with the American Association of School Administrators.
