Did you know that the word vexillology means the study of flags? If not, then thanks to this gorgeously illustrated book by debut author, Robert G. Fresson, you will learn a great deal about flags; their origins, meanings and aspirations for the countries they represent.

As you might expect, the bulk of this book consists of information regarding individual country's flag. All of the countries have either a single or double page feature and are grouped by the most prominent visual feature of the flag e.g. stars or animals. There is a brief but very useful introduction with a glossary and at the back are a few helpful maps with space for your own doodling and notes. There are also some lovely endpapers of little characters holding or moving the various parts that make up a flag, in all different shapes and colours. …
