Brooks is a writer who seems to improve with every book published. Just when you think he couldn't possibly top the last one, along he comes with something breathtaking--and this time it's Dogchild.

Set in the future when humanity is reduced to two warring tribes living amongst the rubble and remains of former civilisation, Dogchild tells the tale of Jeet. Taken by a pack of wild dogs as a baby, Jeet was raised as one of their own. It wasn't until his pack ventured into the walled city in an ill-advised raid that Jeet was 'rescued' from the only family he had ever known, and 'rehumanised'. He isn't the only Dogchild in the city of 120 or so people, but they aren't supposed to mix and although it isn't expressly forbidden they certainly aren't supposed to form a relationship. Half a mile away the Dau--the only other remaining humans--are waiting for their chance to attack. …
