Change of Addresses in N.Y. Post Offices: Chandler Named Publisher

The New York Post - always a fan of big news - made news of its own last week with the appointment of Ken Chandler to publisher, a move announced Sept. 29 by News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch.

Chandler succeeds Martin Singerman, who is retiring after 51/2 years as publisher of New York's third-largest daily, and 26 years as an executive within Murdoch's News Corp. Chandler also will continue his current role as editor in chief of the Post, although deputy editor Xana Antunes has been named acting editor, and will run the day-to-day operations in the newsroom.

Under Singerman, whom Murdoch called out of retirement when he re- acquired the Post in 1993, the Post stabilized and eventually grew its slumping circulation and reintroduced a Sunday edition, which now has a circulation of 382,382, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. With the Post's situation now more secure, it will be Chandler's job to drive it forward, presumably by attracting more major advertisers, which the Post does not have in significant numbers today. …
